Massdrop just announced QC issues with the Airist RDAC -- delaying release until May 2019 -- but graciously allowed folks to cancel their orders, which I did. Seems like there is too much competition across established players in the sub-$700 R2R market. I'm actually overwhelmed trying to pick an alternate to the RDAC at this point.

im picking up my r2r11 on saturday and ill sit down with both. however i can say i AM enjoying the rdac so far. it is an excellent dac and i honestly agree with most of all the thoughts already posted about it. i so far have no issues i can detect and its very very quiet with no "static". this was very much worth the price tag

Newer units seem to be a closer match - and I believe new production (since the RDAC was finalized) have the same finish. If you look at the pictures I have of my MCTH and LCX, both bought right after I got the Airist DAC to audition, stacked with the RDAC, you'll see they're a LOT closer match than in @DarthPool's shots.

The Airist is less forward sounding and has a bigger stage overall. Breathes easier than the Modi MB but has less focus. Layering may not be as accurate, but the DAC sounds more spacious overall. It also has a bit of bloom to the sound in the low end that some may hear as air. Again, the Airist DAC sounds somewhat like a non-oversampling DAC.
